The James Hotel Chicago

I first stayed at the James in 2007 while working for The Gap on a Banana Republic project.

I was taken immediately taken by the old fashioned service with a modern twist. The entire hotel epitomizes that sentiment with bellmen running into the street to fetch you a cab, but without the crazy outfit.

The rooms are well appointed and spacious. On my first outing here I was accidentally upgraded to a suite and given a dessert platter and complimentary bottle of wine. Upon checkout it was revealed that the additional accoutrements were a mistake — "oh well" I thought. Too bad for me.

Since that first trip I have been back a half-dozen times and would say that this is easily my favourite hotel in Chicago — a home away from home.

Excellent service, a David Burke Primehouse onsite, and good proximity to all of Chicago's most desirable sites makes this a must stay for me. I'm not a big shopper, but the Magnificent Mile makes for easy entertainment. Oh, and there's a Trader Joe's across the street should you need to stock up on supplies.

This is my Chicago home away from home and my first choice of places to stay in the Windy City.
