Ramen geeks rejoice — Venice Ramen is actually really awesome! Ramen in the hot California sun might seem a bit counterintuitive, but sometimes it helps to get a good noodle sweat going in the heat. Based on their sister location in Tokyo’s trendy Shibuya district, Venice Ramen brings a traditional Tokyo style Tonkotsu Ramen to a strip mall on the edge of Venice in Marina Del Rey.
The Japanese staff here are super friendly and their recommendation of the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen was spot on after drinking too many beers the night before at Venice Ale House. I would describe it as moderately spicy, although I was mopping sweat from my brow by the end. The creamy tonkotsu broth was delicious also.
After seeing it on several other trips I finally had the opportunity to eat here. The meal and service both confirmed what many Los Angelinos and frequent visitors already know — some of the best food in Los Angeles is found in the cities ubiquitous neighbourhood strip malls.
